Despite what you might think, I'm not disrespecting Japanese culture by having Price Samurai produce a sandwich from his bento box... According to this Wikipedia article, "European-style" bento boxes containing sandwiches were first on sale in Japan during the Meiji Period (1868 to 1912). History doesn't record whether potato chips were included, though ;) Anyway, if you have an interest in food, or Japanese culture, you should go check out that article - it's fascinating. Trust the Japanese to turn the box lunch into pure art - and trust the rest of the world to catch on to this beautiful aspect of cuisine. |
