Notes on today's comic:FINALLY... MAX VALUE MAKES HIS ENTRANCE! Just to spoil things a little bit, the only reason he's not showed up before is because I couldn't figure out how he should look... One of the disadvantages of drawing the way I do is that when I try to model someone's appearance on a real person, they end up looking nothing like them. Max is a case in point - I actually tried to model his appearance on that of George Clooney! Also making her first appearance in the comic is Kelsey, who's a new friend and work colleague at Target - she liked my work so much that I asked her permission to turn her into a character :D As far as I could tell, Kelsey was quite pleased and excited at the prospect; hopefully she'll still be happy about it when she sees how her digital version looks! As far the content of the strip is concerned... I would think that almost anyone who's worked in retail has encountered a customer who expects preferential treatment just because they spend a lot of money in your store. Yes, by all means keep them coming back, but having to kowtow to a big spender just makes my skin crawl! For the record, incidentally, I think I'm polite to all the customers I serve - there's no way I'd say anything that I've written for Penny or Max! How friendly I am, mind you, depends on how the customer treats me. And, funnily enough, working in retail has, for the most part, made me a better customer :) Technical stuff: I think I've done better with the positioning of the hips, this time around... And I've also now decided to go with using fonts for the name badges, instead of drawing them - it looks much better that way, I think :) News, Views and Just Plain Schmooze...Monday 23 November 2009Up to 64 countries now... with the addition of Sri Lanka, Venezuela and Malta! If you click here, you can see them all... Took quite a bit of doing, this... and I've had a bit of a geography lesson in the process :) Wednesday 18 November 2009Sorry the comic was up late today. I was rather tired after I got back home, and I needed a nap! I've decided to get rid of the Paper or Plastic? Facebook Page... For one thing, there really wasn't much I was saying, other than the number of visits to this site, and additions of countries and new fans of the Facebook Page itself - and I can do that kind of stuff in this section of this site. Secondly, in all the time I had the page, I only ended up with 19 fans... and there wasn't much interaction anyway (which is what I'd hoped for when I set up the page in the first place). Wednesday 11 November 2009Since March, people from no less than 61 countries around the world have visited the Paper or Plastic site! Thanks to all of you who have visited - although I planned for the comic to be potentially seen worldwide, I'd not actually expected that I'd do so well in such a short space of time... |
