Notes on today's comic (2 Aug 2010):Okay, this comic is more sentimental than humorous, but that's my prerogative :) Back in 2004, I started tuning in to the BBC World Service in an effort to try to help me get to sleep; not because it was boring (because it wasn't), but just listening to music wouldn't have prevented my mind racing. One night, quite by accident, I came across Just A Minute, and loved it - and then was delighted to discover that it was also broadcast during the evening on BBC Radio 4. I managed to get my mum interested in it, and so Monday nights became a joy for us as we listened to the contestants trying to speak for a minute on a given subject without hesitation, repetition or deviation, presided over by the charming Nicholas Parsons. Luckily for me, the BBC also broadcasts over the Internet these days, so moving to the USA didn't mean I had to miss out on my favourite BBC show. Now that I have Sundays and Mondays off work, it enables me to listen to the show on a Monday as it goes out - and the thought of listening to Just A Minute at the same time as Mum's listening to it does make me feel like we're sharing the experience. And it starts again today on BBC Radio 4! Oh, just so you know: I'm not a shill for the BBC! But here are some helpful links relating to the show... at this link, you'll find the show itself (when it's actually in season), with the programme being available for a further seven days after broadcast via the Listen Again service. Meanwhile, this link is a Wikipedia article about the programme. News, Views and Just Plain Schmooze...Monday 2 August 2010Not only is the visitor count over six thousand now, but another African nation has visited the site: Botswana! 86 countries in total :) Wednesday 21 July 2010Two more countries have joined the list: Croatia and Myanmar [Burma], bringing the total to 85. The latter one was quite a surprise to my friend Jeff, since Internet access is restricted. But then there was only one visit anyway, so I'm inclined to wonder who it was doing the looking... Monday 12 July 2010WOOHOO! I managed to fix the laptop myself! I did get some inspiration from my brother Patrick (who's a real whiz with computer hardware; I'm more a software-focused person), who told me there were some screws I needed to find and deal with... I found them, and succeeded in getting into where I needed to be to investigate and clean up - at one point, I was literally flossing the ventilation grill! Anyway, it's done wonders for my electronic friend, and I don't have to worry about the thing dropping dead on me! Yay! Wednesday 7 July 2010AAARGH! I'm really sorry that today's comic is so very, very late! The other day, I decided to give my laptop a reformat-and-reinstall, because it was suffering from various problems. But it seems that I've made it worse, because it's overheating like crazy! Also, the PAINT.NET program that I've been using isn't behaving properly at all, so I've been turning the air a fine old shade of blue *sigh*. Still, it's finally online! I hope I can get the PC fixed - or at least find some willing soul to donate their old one... |
