Notes on today's comic (19 April 2010):

Wow, sometimes I really set myself up for a long haul... This strip took bloody AGES to do, what with all the bottle designs for the ones on the shelves behind Clarice's head. I'm obviously nuts :)

It's funny, but I didn't really think of Rob looking like Howie Mandel until I was working on the dialogue for this strip...

Oh yeah... a couple of notes on the bottles on the top shelf: The eighth one along from the left is a rather badly-drawn rendition of a bottle I learned about when I was much, much younger: a "codswallop" bottle, which has a marble as a stopper - there's a picture here, and there's a Wikipedia entry on codswallop, which details the prevailing theories on how the term came to mean "nonsense".

The bottle on the far right of the top shelf is supposed to be leaning over like that: it's based on the Pisa Nut Liqueur bottle, and of course, it's imitating the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

One thing I discovered while I was desperately trying to locate bottle designs was the concept of flashing bottle labels... Amazing what people will think of!

News, Views and Just Plain Schmooze...

Monday 19 April 2010

Hmm, seems I'm having trouble knowing what day it is... The news entry for April 14 was given as Monday! Shame on me! It should be all OK now :)

First of all, I'd like to wish my brother Patrick Johnson a happy birthday!

The number of countries has climbed again (at last) to 75, but I'm a bit nervous about announcing which one it is... You see, for quite a while, there's been a naming dispute over this country since 1991, and I have no desire to cause offence to citizens of any of the countries involved. So, I'm going to use the designation given by Google Analytics - therefore, if you don't like it, it's their fault, not mine! The country in question is listed as "Macedonia [FYROM]", and you can find out more (including what "FYROM" stands for) by clicking the link earlier in this paragraph.

Monday 5 April 2010

Since I've worked out how to check the all-time results from Google Analytics, I can now happily tell you that the total number of visits from Dec 22 to April 3 is now 4,458!

Monday 29 March 2010

I dunno, you wait ages for another country, and then two come along at once! This time, a visitor from Fiji came to Paper or Plastic?, so that's now 74 :)

I'm still trying to get the word out there, by contributing comments to various discussion boards (though not by spamming or trolling; I'm making comments relevant to the site being visited!), and it seems to be paying off, up to a point :)
